Three day bike tour Victoria Day weekend

Sat, May 22, 2010 · 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM · Woodstock

This is a trip for all the cyclists out there. It will take advantage of the Victoria Day long weekend to do a bit of a longer tour. We will start in Woodstock and wind our way through rural roads, historic small towns, and finally follow an old rail bed to Port Dover where we will spend the night. The next day we will follow the shore of Lake Erie moving up and down the small hills passing through interesting towns to Long Point and the town of Port Rowan. On the final day we will make way back to our cars via road and old rail road bed.

Having not done this trip myself yet I cannot speak about it with experience. The guide book I have (Cycling Ontario published by Ulysses) lists this trip as an easy trip with flat terrain and good surfaces. Given we will be passing through many small towns there will be little need to carry much in the way of food or water as it can be picked up every few hours. All one needs is some cash, clothes, a spare tube, and something to carry it all in.

In port Dover and the long Point area there are accommodations in the form of B&Bs. Also at Long Point there is camping, however the holiday may have filled that up already. People are responsible for finding their own accommodations. Please do this early!! Use the message board to find people to share rooms and carpool with.

This trip is suited to people who are experienced with riding distances of up to 90KM in a day and are able to carry their necessities on their bike, via trailer, or on their back, and are able to handle minor on-trail repairs such as patching tires. The trip is rain or shine so be prepared.

We will meet at the starting point, The Woodstock Quality Inn Parking lot, at 9AM Saturday.
