Backpacking in Queen Elizabeth Wildlands #2

Sat, Aug 31, 2013 · 10:00 AM – Mon, Sep 2 · Queen Elizabeth II Wildlands

I know this is late but I just realized next weekend is a long one. Instead of hanging around in town I am going backpacking. I am heading into Queen Elizabeth II Wildlands on the Ganaraska trail starting at the Moore Falls Trailhead. This will be a bit more wild than most trips as the trail lacks any official campsites or privies. This is an experience that is very rare in Southern Ontario Pack where you get to pick your own campsite and don't need to file a hiking plan.. Pack for adventure.

The plan is to head out Saturday and hike until we feel like stopping. The pace will not be overly fast though I expect we will cover around 15 KM. Sunday we will day-hike to explore Victoria Lake and maybe even Wolf Lake. Monday we will hike back to the cars.

The trail head is very difficult to find and parking is very sparse. Here is a map showing were we can park. (https://mapsengine.google.com/map/edit?mid=zMk_CK_kbZOs.kciKqB2qmSH4) It is very important you DO NOT park or drive pass any signs stating private property or indicating a cottage area. The is a small grassy lot just outside these signs.

There are no park fees for this trip.

I would rate this an intermediate to advanced level trip. Participants should be self sufficient.

In order to get an early start I am planning on staying at a hotel near the trail head. You can also drive in early if you wish.
