Kayak Skills on Franklin Island

Sat, Aug 20, 2016 · 10:00 AM – Sun, Aug 21 · Franklin Island & the Mink Islands

Let's spend a weekend paddling over to Franklin Island and working on skills. Strokes, recovery, rolling - Greenland or Euro - whatever you want to do.

The official meetup will meet at the government dock next to Gilly's Snug Harbour Marina at 9:00am, planning to be packed and on the water by 9:30.

We'll paddle over to Franklin Island, find a place to camp, then spend the afternoon practicing rolls, rescues, or whatever else you want to work on.

On Sunday, we can paddle around the island, do more practice, or just head back as weather and group energy dictates.

We'll have a campsite Friday night at Killbear if you want to come up Friday night. Details to follow in the comments.

Cost:

  • $10 (or so) for parking at Gilly's
  • share of campsite Friday if you stay there

I will be limiting the event to 8 people, and will initially open the event for a waitlist only; this is because I will be cherry-picking some people with whom we have previously discussed this trip. I may also limit the number of inexperienced paddlers for safety. To sign up, join the waitlist and I will move people to the event as appropriate.

Disclaimer: I am not a guide or instructor, just a fellow paddler. In joining this event, you are responsible for your own safety at all times. Know your limits; paddle within them.

How to find us: Launch from the gov't dock at end of road
