Franklin Island - Plan A, B or let's just C!

Fri, Sep 9, 2016 · 7:00 PM – 10:00 PM · Franklin Island & the Mink Islands

I was on the Franklin Island trip with Morgan and Mike DJ a few weekends back and a few of us wanted to get back out again this year and it was about time I posted a trip! - Mike has offered to be my co-co-host for this trip and his experience and knowledge (rescue techniques and lessons on the dynamics of rolling) are always well demonstrated and explained.

We have two sites booked at Killbear for Friday night, You can reserve your campsite through the shared document (spreadsheet) Please check your meetup message board for a link to a shared document where you will need to fill in your trip details, etc. etc.

The Kick off will be First thing Saturday morning at Gilly's Snug Harbour public docks for 10am that way we will be on the island for lunch! Those picking up kayaks from White Squall (open at 9am) you will have to be there first thing to be back at the put in for 10am.
it's a 20 minute drive!

Trips rarely are cancelled, so make sure you pack for all weather, but that being said, we have Plan A,B or C depending on what the weather has in store for us.

This is an intermediate level trip - participants have some experience especially in open water. 12 person limit

Plan A -
Ideally, We will spend Friday night at Killbear, head out promptly at 10 am from Gilly's Snug Harbour put in* for an easy paddle to one of the prettiest campsites just past Henrietta's point. Saturday, we can play in the bay or head up the coast & check out the geology. We will weave in and around the rock islands, feel the the open water to the west, and end up at a nice swimmin' hole with some rock jumping for fun!

Saturday night, sit by the fire or overlooking the bay. Catch the satellites and stars as we toast the countdown to the end of the season - Sunday, wake up, take our time, heading home with lots of time for those needing to get their kayaks back to White Squall (5:30pm).

Plan B -

We spend Friday night at Killbear, if the forecast looks dangerous for paddling home safely on Sunday, then we reserve another night at Killbear with plans on doing a day trip to the island and around the area.

Plan C -
The Bay is out of control, so we head to Massasagua and do day trips in and around the park. I've never been so it's a win/win for me.

Any questions?- feel free to message me or Mike DJ
