Backpacking, Reeds Dump, Bruce Trail, Lion's Head
For the love of campfires, good conversations and the beauty of nature, Saturday morning we will go to Lion's Head and start hiking the Bruce Trail north to Reed's Dump.
Set up camp and collect firewood before sunset. From there we can go out and explore without heavy gear on our backs both Saturday and Sunday.
Itinerary:
Saturday, Dec 10, we plan on meeting in Lions Head at 9:30. (Approx 2 1/2 hour drive from KW to Lion's Head). Park at the Richardson Side Trail's lot just north of town and start hiking for two hours. Set up camp before dark.
Note: see map 38 in 26th edition of the Bruce Trail Reference. Parking is on Forty Hills Rd at the 87.5 km marker on said map page.
Sunday, shake the frost off your sleeping bag and day hike further along the trail before returning.
Difficulty:
With winter just around the corner it is time to start thinking about winter camping. This is an opportunity to dust of the winter gear prior to the extreme cold and deep snow. Due to the time of year and the forecast participant participants should be prepared for winter conditions. This time of year snow or freezing rain are possible to probable
The hike itself is a routine 6 km one way but given the forecast consider this winter camping. You need to know what you are doing if you don't plan on jumping jacks throughout the night to keep warm.
