Canoeing QEW's Big Loop, II
Join us on a 3-day loop in QEW traveling on some frequently used sections but also many lesser-used rivers, portages, and numerous beaver dams. This trip promises a lot of challenge, solitude, wildlife, and surprises.
Challenges include
• significant remoteness
• long portages
• no official campsites or privies
• no official maintenance on route
• possible areas of motor boat traffic
• possibly low water levels, i.e. more portages
• buggy conditions
Participant requirements
• you are expected be a capable canoe paddler, for your safety this should not be your first overnight canoe trip
• you must have more than 20 nights of wilderness camping experience
• you and your boat mate MUST collectively be packed for single carry portages on the longer carries, we cannot complete the trip in three days otherwise
You may be contacted to confirm that your experience level is appropriate. Attendance on this trip is at the discretion of the organizer.
Portions of the route may have been traveled and clear but I suggest we have a small saw and loppers in case we need to clear the portages.
Give the long carries lighter boats are recommended.
Please reserve you boat early, the can and do run out, and budget time for picking your boat on Saturday.
