Introduction to backpacking - Learn what to pack

Wed, Sep 18, 2019 · 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM · Kitchener–Waterloo

If you have ever been interested in what it takes to live comfortably in the woods for more than a day, this class is for you. Tim and Richard have hiked thousands of miles in all seasons, and we'll share with you what we've learned so you can pack well for your next adventure. This includes discussions on:

1) Clothing
2) Shelter
3) Sleeping gear
4) Food
5) Cooking equipment
6) Other misc. small items

This equipment is the foundation for almost all multi-day outdoor trips, be it canoeing, backpacking, or cycle touring. The content will focus on "3-season" packing in Ontario.

The weekend of October 4th there is a gentle backpacking trip posted. That trip covers the skills needed to put the equipment discussed to good use. You are invited to attend the class, even if you do not intend on coming on a trip, but please don't sign up for the trip unless you are coming to the class.

Feel free to bring your own equipment in order to ask questions about it.

This class will last about 2-3 hours. McCabes offers this space for us to meet for free; please support them by purchasing a drink or even dinner while at the class.
