Backcountry Canoe Trip in Algonquin Provincial Park
KWBT Summer of Love
Love of canoeing, that is. I’m saying we’ll be back to canoeing in Algonquin come August, so here goes! To get to North Tea Lake, we’ll be canoeing up the beautiful Amable du Fond River, one of my favorite places on the planet. This is Algonquin wilderness. You know those places in Algonquin where you can be camping and still get cellular service? Yeah, not here.
This is pretty much a beginners-level trip, including two short, well-groomed portages, 65m and 255m, and 5-6 hours of paddling out and back - an ideal trip for a newbie to be introduced to the backcountry. I’ll be looking to arrange for an appropriate mix of experienced and inexperienced backcountry paddlers. Four canoes, eight paddlers in total.
It’s an extended weekend trip. We come up Thursday, either during the day or after work, and set up our tents for the night at the outfitters, where we will be leaving our vehicles. Friday morning we canoe to North Tea and set up our weekend base camp. Saturday we tour the area and return to base. Sunday we’re back to the cars by late afternoon.
Canoes and all kinds of gear can be easily rented at the outfitters. Trip details and an organizing spreadsheet will be sent later by email. No pets on this trip, thanks.
The total camping fee for the 3 nights is $40 each, and no charge for parking. Your RSVP puts you on the waiting list. I will contact you to discuss experience levels and related info. Then, and after you e-transfer me $40, I change your RSVP to ‘going’. If something comes up and you can’t attend, I'll arrange for a replacement. This event is not ‘first come, first served’ - I’ll ensure that canoe-camping newbies are paired with experienced paddlers.
Your RSVP indicates your agreement with the terms of the Co-Participant Understanding at https://www.meetup.com/KW-Backcountry/messages/boards/thread/52807358
