KWBT intro sea kayak trip

Fri, Jun 25, 2021 · 4:00 PM – Sun, Jun 27 · Point Pelee National Park

The trip is now full.

Yup, going back to Pt Pelee. The waters here are shallow and warm up quickly, which is what we want because this is a training trip - plan on getting wet.

Point Pelee is the southernmost part of Canada’s mainland, and a birder’s paradise. Bird migration was the reason Point Pelee became a national park in 1918. You should wear a hat!

Friday afternoon we’ll do some sea kayak famil training, followed by a session on wet-exits and re-entries, and self-rescues and assisted rescues. Saturday we paddle the sheltered waters of Pt Pelee National Park, and on Sunday we’ll do a half-day paddle up Sturgeon Creek. KWBT considers this type of training to be mandatory for anyone joining our Georgian Bay trips.

Though anyone can benefit from refresher training, this trip is primarily for the benefit of newbies and those renting kayaks. Kayak rentals are available and conveniently located. A word of warning - I’ve posted this trip early because kayak rentals will go quickly this year, as they did last year - I recommend you check with me on rental info and secure your kayak as soon as you are signed on as ‘Going’.

We’ll be tent camping. Further trip details and an organizing spreadsheet will be sent by email. No pets on this trip, thanks.

Your RSVP puts you on the Waitlist. I’ll contact you to discuss your experience level - preference will be given to to kayak newbies, though I’ll be requiring a certain ratio of experienced and inexperienced paddlers.

Your RSVP indicates your agreement with the terms of the Co-Participant Understanding at https://www.meetup.com/KW-Backcountry/messages/boards/thread/52807358

There's always someone to lend a hand on KWBT Meetups, but you are responsible for your own transportation, food, gear, personal safety and COVID risk. You can DM me with any questions through this Meetup app.
