Backcountry Kayak trip to Philip Edward Island
The trip is now full. If you’re interested in attending, have your name on the Waitlist because if someone has to bail, that’s where I’ll look for a replacement.
We’ll be hitting up the south shore of PEI, one of the larger of Georgian Bay’s thousands and thousands of islands. Catherine wants to visit the area at a time she thinks the water will be warm enough to warrant taking a bathing suit, so the end of July it is. This will be a relaxed pace trip, with plenty of time for sight seeing.
We’ll head up Tuesday, July 27, and spend the night camping in Killarney, then launch Wednesday morning, returning Saturday July 31st. For some of us, the trip will end with a night of camping at Killarney Saturday night. On account of weather vagaries, you might want to have your calendar free for the following day or two, just in case.
A sea kayak will be required, and if you’re renting, we’re working with Killarney Outfitters, and you’ll be wanting to secure that rental as soon as you’re on the trip’s Going list. Outfitters will be renting out their entire fleet of rental kayaks this summer, as they did last summer. A sea kayak will usually have a rudder or skeg, and for this trip, the length of our boats is typically between 15 and 18 feet. For an average-sized person, 16-17 feet is a good length.
Trip details and an organizing spreadsheet will be sent by email, which is where we assist people in obtaining gear they might need and arrange for car-pooling. No pets on this trip, thanks.
Expenses are few. Maybe $25 for camping, $10 parking, gas money, kayak rental.
Your RSVP puts you on the Waitlist. I will contact you to discuss experience levels and related info, then I change your RSVP to 'Going'. As usual, I wish to balance the mix of experienced and less experienced sea kayakers.
Your RSVP indicates your agreement with the terms of the Co-Participant Understanding at https://www.meetup.com/KW-Backcountry/messages/boards/thread/52807358
