Backpacking Algonquin’s Eastern Pines Trail

Sat, Sep 3, 2022 · 8:00 PM – Mon, Sep 5 · Algonquin Provincial Park

The trip is full.

Most backpackers from southern Ontario will know of Algonquin’s Western Uplands Trail, and some will drive a little further to backpack the Highland Trail, but not as many make the trip to the eastern side of Algonquin to backpack the Eastern Pines Trail - it’s a longer trip from the GTA to here than it is to Killarney. Yeah, Algonquin’s a big park.

But that’s the plan, Stan. This is a 25km loop hike, not particularly difficult, so it’s suitable for novice backpackers, on a level of difficulty with the Abes and Essens hike we do at Bon Echo PP. We’ll drive up Saturday, camp on the trail that evening, camp further along the trail Sunday evening, then back out and home Labour Day Monday. The most noteworthy feature of this hike is the spectacular playtime we get at High Falls, with its several pools and natural rock waterslide, also being the location of our Sunday night campsite.

Trip details and an organizing spreadsheet will be sent later by email. Camping and parking fees will be maybe $50 per person. No pets on this trip, thanks.

My intention is to take a group of hikers with various levels of experience, especially people who have not hiked this trail, and some people new to KWBT. Your RSVP puts you on the Waitlist and indicates your agreement with the terms of the Co-Participant Understanding.

There's always someone to lend a hand on KWBT Meetup trips, but you are responsible for your own transportation, food, gear, and personal safety. You can DM me with any questions through this Meetup app.
