What to pack for a winter trip

Wed, Jan 11, 2023 · 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM · Kitchener–Waterloo

Have you always wonder how to enjoy camping through the winter? Maybe you went a trip in high school and you are just getting feeling back in your toes but you want try again. ;)

If you are interested in extending your outdoor travel into winter this is the class for you, and I promise your toes will be fine.

This is the first part of a two part course. In this we will be talk about the clothing and equipment you will need to have a successful winter backpacking trip in Southern Ontario, i.e. what you need to buy and carry to travel safely and comfortably.

In part two we spend the night in the woods and and learn the skills needed to stay warm and travel. That trip will happen on weekend of Feb 4th. You MUST attend this class to be eligible to join the trip.

All are welcome to come to the class at McCabes but those who are not already be comfortable and competent hiking on multi-day trips alone will find some of the content incomplete or confusing. This event will only cover things that are different in winter. There will not be time to cover basic skills and knowledge.

There will be time afterward the presentation to ask questions and look at examples of the gear I use.

If you want to join the trip, consider you are required to have prior experience and familiarity with summer backpacking. It will not be discussing topics relevant to summer camping.

If you want to start packing early and ask for some of the gear in your holiday list there is a packing list on trip event page.

Please support McCabes who offers there space to us by purchasing a drink or meal.

I hope to see you there and have a great holiday season.
