Backpacking, Ganaraska Trail, Queen Elizabeth Wildlands

Sat, Oct 13, 2012 · 6:00 AM – 9:00 AM · Queen Elizabeth II Wildlands

Going, going, gone. This could be your last chance to snag fall colors. Follow the Ganaraska Trail along the Black River in the Queen Elizabeth Wildlands.

Some describe these wildlands as bleak but therein lies their beauty; seldom travelled, undisturbed, Canadian Shield.

Itinerary:

Saturday, Oct. 13, 6:00 am, drive three hours to where Black River Rd crosses the Black River, east of Cooper Falls (east of Gravenhurst).

10:00 am start hiking west on the Ganaraska Trail. Setup camp after reaching the lake below. We'll identify the lake amongst the anonymous many by its hyperactive beaver lodge.

Sunday, return to vehicle, 4:00 pm, drive home, arriving KW 7:00 pm.

Cost:

$20 shared gas. Parking and camping are on crown land.

Difficulty:

An easy 9 km (one way) hike. Be prepared for night time temperatures reaching freezing.
