Winter camping & snowshoeing

Mike's Excellent Winter Camping Adventure

Sat, Feb 20, 2021 · 8:00 AM – Sun, Feb 21 · Location not recorded

THE TRIP IS NOW FULL. IF YOU’RE INTERESTED IN ATTENDING, HAVE YOUR NAME ON THE WAITLIST BECAUSE IF SOMEONE BAILS, THAT’S WHERE I’LL LOOK FOR A REPLACEMENT

OK, we’ll try it again - we may have to cancel this trip on account of whatever restrictions are in place, so again, we’ll plan a trip, and plan to be flexible. Note that our destination will need to be open for travel, and we will each need to be coming from areas without stay-at-home orders in place. I’m thinking of maybe six hikers, with a mix of experience levels. Those new, or newish, to winter camping will receive trip-planning assistance and a complete gear review prior to the trip.

We head up north Saturday until we reach some usable crown land - no camping fees, no parking fees, no fire rings, no picnic tables, no cell service - camping in the woods! We’ll do a snowshoeing day hike Sunday, then pack up, and be back home that evening - not a very strenuous adventure for the more experienced among us - this trip is geared to introducing people to winter backpacking. We will not be crossing any lakes, and pulks are an option for those so inclined, as are hot tents so long as this is not your first experience with them.

Trip details and an organizing spreadsheet will be sent shortly by email. No pets on this trip, thanks. Your RSVP puts you on the Waitlist. I will contact you to discuss your winter camping experience and any gear requirements you might have, then I change your RSVP to ‘Going’.
